Simple & Slick Business Free Joomla Template

free business joomla template
Please share:

From my experience I know that most of the people prefer simple and clean templates for their websites. So I created this Business template for those who want simplicity. As you will see in the preview, the template is not fancy, just rounded corner boxes with light shadows, some light colors and a dark horizontal menu.

Main Features of Business Template

  • Simple, light and professional look, perfect for business sites
  • Many module positions available (check the module map bellow), and also custom modules styles are included
  • Drop down horizontal navigation menu with jQuery effects
  • Slideshow included, very easy to set up from template parameters (slide description is also available)
  • Responsive layout, that means the template adapts to laptops, tablets and mobile phone screens
  • I used CSS3 and HTML5 for rounding the corners and creating the shadows, this way I was able to reduce template size

    There seems to be something wrong with this template, keep getting the following error when trying to use this;

    PHP Notice: Undefined index: REQUEST_URL in drive:\localpath\templates
    Any suggestions ?

    1. JT Admin on Oct.22.2013

      What is your PHP version? Nobody reported this issue before, so I guess it is something wrong on your end.
      I highly suggest to use XAMPP or WAMP server for your localhost development. It makes development much easier and supports Joomla very well with latest MYSQL and PHP versions.

      Please download the template and install it again and let me know if this problem still appears.

    Hi,

    I have installed the slick and business template (using Joomla 3.1), and it looks great in Mozilla Firefox, and Chrome but unfortunately not in Internet Explorer 8 which means unless there is a workaround, I would have to source another template altogether. Is there a workaround or do you have a template that is compatible with IE8 on Joomla 3.1?

    Thanks,
    Natalie

    1. JT Admin on Nov.14.2013

      Hello Natalie!
      Unfortunately my templates does not support IE8. It work only with IE9 or higher versions. Could be fixed to work with IE8 as well, but the CSS3 and HTML5 styles will not work anyway.

  3. mikeyjay on Nov.14.2013

    Are these templates compatible with Joomla 3.2? I installed this Simple & Slick template on my Joomla 3.1.5 site but when I upgrade to Joomla 3.2 all I get is a blank page with nothing on the front end. If I switch templates back to Protostar the front end starts showing again.

    1. JT Admin on Nov.14.2013

      All templates are compatible with Joomla 3.2 now. Download the new version of the template.

      The page looks blank because probably you have Featured Articles on the homepage and none of the articles are listed in the backend as featured articles.
      Please let me know if this was the problem or there is an error.

  4. mikeyjay on Nov.14.2013

    JT Admin,

    Firstly I’d like to thank-you for taking the time to respond and help out. Also, I’d like to congratulate you on the beautiful templates you designed and thank-you for making them available for free download.

    I did download the template again. I deleted the old one and installed the new one but the blank site problem still persists. Can you confirm that the 3.2 version has been uploaded? According to the XML file of the template I just downloaded it is 3.1, but maybe you just forgot to update this.

    I do have featured articles on the homepage but they are also listed on the backend as featured articles. I don’t believe this is the problem because I can switch to a different template and the site loads (just with the modules out of position of course).

    1. JT Admin on Nov.14.2013

      The XML file was not updated, will do that in the next days of course. Was rushing to update all the templates so it can be used without problems.

      So you are saying that the articles are showing on the homepage, but the modules are not. Well probably the modules you are using are not set to the positions that this template use. The sidebar module should be placed to positions ‘left’ and ‘right’. You can check all the modules positions available on the template in the above image.

      Probably I could help more if you would provide me with a demo or with a screenshot.

      1. mikeyjay on Nov.14.2013

        Oops I think you misunderstood me. I was just talking about when I switched back to protostar or any other template to identify that my problem is indeed with your business template, but nevermind that.

        My site is not loading at all on the frontend with the business template. Just a complete blank page. Nothing at all in the source code either. A screenshot would be of no use :/

        I thought the problem could be that your download link is still giving me the 3.1 version of the business template and not 3.2. Can you double check this really quick to make sure the 3.2 version is linked for downloading?

        1. JT Admin on Nov.14.2013

          Have updated the XML file, and the download link works fine. It worked before as well.
          It is very strange that in source code there is nothing, because I just installed this template few minutes ago to a fresh Joomla 3.2 system and it works without problem. Don’t know what the problem could be.

          1. mikeyjay on Nov.14.2013

            Got it figured out. Started testing out my modules one by one and discovered that an extension I’m using called JEvents was the culprit. Disabled that and everything worked beautifully again.

            I apologize for assuming the template was the problem. Once again I think your templates are fantastic and I appreciate your support and patience. I’ve given you a nod over at the Joomla forums.

          2. JT Admin on Nov.14.2013

            I’m glad you found out where the problem was. The JEvents module was causing problems with the other templates as well or only with mine?

  5. mikeyjay on Nov.15.2013

    JEvents doesn’t seem to work with other templates either. I guess it just needs to be updated for Joomla 3.2.

  6. chathuraka on Nov.19.2013

    what is the module (in module manager) that need to use for a requirement of putting “call us directly” item in the top position of this site?

    1. JT Admin on Nov.19.2013

      I used “Custom HTML” module for this and used H4 tag for the “call us” and simple text, everything aligned to right.

    1. JT Admin on Nov.22.2013

      What do you mean? Give us more info or a preview link to your site. Maybe you have to remove the Menu Class Suffix from the menu module.

        1. JT Admin on Nov.22.2013

          As I thought the Menu Class Suffix have to be removed. By default the first menu module installed by the Joomla system gets a class suffix. You have two options to change this:
          Option 1: Delete this menu module and create a new one. The new menu module will not have any suffixes.
          Option 2: Go to Module Manager > Main Menu Module > Advance Options tab > Menu Class Suffix > Remove the nav-pills and save it.

          Please let me know if this worked for you.

  7. Zed on Nov.23.2013

    How do you get the Slideshow to work? It defaults to -Hide Slideshow at the template end but does not have a -Show Slideshow option. Thanks

    1. JT Admin on Nov.23.2013

      You have to select the menus where you want the slideshow to be active. If you want to display it only on the home page, select the Home menu. To show the slideshow on all pages, you need to select all the menus. And most important, do not select the – Hide Slideshow option!

  8. systm on Nov.25.2013

    Receiving the following message in IE only.

    This page is accessing information that is not under its control. This poses a security risk. Do you want to continue?

    1. systm on Nov.25.2013

      I found a solution.

      Being that my site is only an internal intranet I was able to apply a group policy setting to all computers which fixed this.

      The template policy settings for URL Actions are available in both Computer Configuration and User Configuration, in the Administrative Templates\Windows Components\Internet Explorer\Internet Control Panel\Security Page node of Group Policy Object Editor.

      On a domain controller, edit the Default Domain Policy.
      Choose Computer Configuration
      Administrative Templates\Windows Components\Internet Explorer\Internet Control Panel\Security Page
      Choose Internet Zone
      Configure “access data sources across domains”

      Enable Policy
      And Enable Access
      Apply

      Refresh Group Policy on that machine.

      1. JT Admin on Nov.25.2013

        Thanks for sharing this information with us. The template uses jQuery library and fonts styles from google, so probably this is why your system gave you this security issue.

  9. Michel on Nov.26.2013

    Hi,

    I’m new to Joomla. I like this wonderful template and was wondering if it’s possible to install it exactly like the preview, with all the lorem ipsum articles and menu’s etc.
    This way i can change / edit them, and learn Joomla at the same time.

    Thanks!

    1. JT Admin on Nov.26.2013

      I’m sorry Michel, the preview is not available for download. I did not used anything fancy on the preview, just the standard Joomla blog layout, and have set up few menu and custom html module in the available positions.

    hi i cant get the menu to work, it only shows the submenu on the page where the menu is linked at

  12. branden on Dec.30.2013

    hello! i have a problem with adding more than 5 menus in position “menu”, it jumps to the next line and since the menu font color is white it mixed up with the template background color.

  13. katzenjammer on Jan.10.2014

    Thank you for the clean template that has great functionality. I’m building a site using your template and everything looks good when you view the site on a computer screen or tablet, but it doesn’t seem to be converting very well to a smart phone screen. Are there special settings that I am missing in order for the template to be viewed properly on a phone screen? I’ve included the address to the site I’m working on. Any help would be most appreciated.

    Thanks!

    1. JT Admin on Jan.10.2014

      The template works on mobile phones by default, you don’t need to do anything, however when you are creating the content/layout, you have to consider to make that mobile ready as well.

      The main problem in your demo is the table in the content area, that have a fixed width of 700px. Try to add a class to that table and declare it in the css file like:

      .homepage_table {max-width:700px} – this is compatible with mobile devices however tables will always cause problems.

      I highly recommend avoiding the use of tables if you want a good looking mobile version for your site.

    Hi
    Great template. Could you write me how to split USER2 in such way like it is on demo?
    I forgot to write that I want do it on Joomla 3.2.1

    1. JT Admin on Jan.11.2014

      If you want 3 columns, just create 3 modules and publish all of them on position USER2.

    2. katzenjammer on Jan.13.2014

      Thanks for the info! I have always struggled with the mobile friendly issues of websites and need to learn more about them. I will try your suggestion and hopefully my client will be happy.

  15. sin21 on Jan.11.2014

    Hi

    Thank you for answer. Now when I put 3 modules Custom HTML everything is OK. Yesterday I made two modules as Custom HTML and in third I put Facebook Like Box Genius. When I refresh page all modules were located vertical.
    I have to find different FB module.

    Thank you one more time.

    Hi! This is simply the best template I ever saw.

    I have one question. Is it possible to resize the logo? I mean no matter what size of photo is uploaded, template automatically shrinks/resize the image.

    If not, is it possible to remove logo area that the #top would be on the whole header?

    Thanks and keep up the good work ;)

    1. JT Admin on Jan.14.2014

      You can edit the max-width of the logo in styles.css but if you want to have it on the whole width of the header you will need to edit the index.php as well:
      Find this code < div id="logo" class="col span_4" > and change span_4 to span_12
      You wont be able to display the top module, because it will probably mess up the layout.

  17. K. FLEURY on Jan.15.2014

    Congratulations on the beautiful site! I am Brazilian and I am learning to use Joomla.
    1. How can I activate Users 1and 2?
    2. Which modules and plugins you use to compose this model?
    3. What is the command to cut the material of the homepage?

    1. JT Admin on Jan.15.2014

      Hi!
      On the USER1-2 positions I placed Custom HTML and Menu modules. You can create those modules in Extensions > Module Manager
      By “cut” I guess you are referring to read more buttons. That can be added in the article editor, by inserting a read more tag.

      You can also check out the documentation page for more help. I made a tutorial on how to set up my templates.

  18. jp on Jan.28.2014

    I’m wondering if there’s a fix for this… If I scale the browser to a small enough size, it will switch to the mobile menu…if I click anything on the menu, then maximize the browser, the regular menu is gone. It only does this if you click the mobile menu. If I just minimize (or shrink) then maximize, it’s fine.

    1. JT Admin on Jan.28.2014

      That is a rendering problem. It wont affect the performance of the menu on any device, only if you are playing with the size of the browser. Did not found any solution to fix this issue yet.

    Hello,

    Is it possible to get a background image on this template? I try many options, but I don’t know many of templates and CSS-style scripts. I like to add a background on all pages on the whole website.

    I hope you can help me with this.

    1. JT Admin on Feb.06.2014

      Hi! Find the following code in the stlyes.css :
      body { color: #606060; font-weight: 400; background: #F6F6F6; font: 13px/25px Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; nowhitespace: afterproperty; }
      and change the background to:

      background:#F6F6F6 url(../images/background.jpg) top center no-repeat;

      upload your background image that is named background.jpg to joomla_folder/templates/business/images

  21. Nico on Feb.06.2014

    Hi
    Great template.

    It is possible to hide position left & right in the mobile phones?

    Thanks

    1. JT Admin on Feb.06.2014

      You can hide the sidebars on mobile devices by adding the following css code to the styles.css file:

      @media screen and (max-width: 799px) {
      #leftbar-w { display:none}
      #rightbar-w { display:none}
      }

      You can lower the screen size to 350px, if you want to hide the sidebar only on phones and still show them on tablets.

  22. jp on Feb.06.2014

    Is there a way to hide submenu items in the mobile menu only or, at least, hide them until the parent item is clicked. Thanks!

    1. JT Admin on Feb.07.2014

      The sub-menus will show up on mobile phones as well, you can’t have them collapsed, however if you want to hide it you can edit the css. Find the following code in styles.css and add the display:none class:

      @media screen and (max-width: 799px) {

      #navigation .menu ul { border-top: none; background:#ececec; border:none; display:none }

      }

  23. DAVID on Feb.07.2014

    Hi thanks for the nice template. please help me :
    1. how to upload a banner without the “business” logo.
    really hope you can help me

    1. JT Admin on Feb.07.2014

      You can upload your own logo image in the template’s parameter in the Advanced tab.

  24. Kostis on Dec.24.2014

    Hello!! Very nice and simple business template. Thank you for developing it.

    I read above that someone couldn’t get more than 5 items on the menu bar and you replied that it was due to long names. I have the exact same problem due to long names in the menu toolbar. How can I resize the text on the menu toolbar so that they fit?

    Thank you!

    1. JT Admin on Jan.09.2015

      You can change the size of the menu item text in the styles.css file at line 162:
      #navigation .menu a {…font-size:10px…}
